I like the retail outlet I work at we turn on the Christmas for Black Friday weekend but turn it off after until we get closer to Christmas. Other wise yeah hearing the same songs over and over again suck butt!
I like Christmas music too - it can be, as they say in the article, uplifting and evoke feelings of nostalgia. And right around the holiday, it is magical. But when it is played ad nauseam, I grow really tired. I resent having music I enjoyed overplayed till I am thoroughly sick of it. Could you imagine 2 months of straight Beatles everywhere you shopped? And working in retail, I can really sympathize with you!
I went to Kohls last Thursday to pick up something quick and sure enough, already with the Christmas music. Those poor employees are stuck with it for 2 months. nope nope nope
I enjoy the classics; Bing, Burl, Brenda Lee…but in moderation. Anyone forced to endure holiday music on the job should get hazard pay, double if Mariah Carey is on the playlist.

ReplyDeleteModeration - that is the key.
DeleteModeration and timing. It's not like it's relevant after Christmas. Or in July.
DeleteI start listening to Christmas music late November (around the 20th), but gradually. On the 27th of December I generally stop.
ReplyDeleteI like to listen to it starting Dec. 23 and stopping Dec. 26th. That's enough for me.
DeleteI could listen to Christmas music every day of the year, were it not for the threats of dismemberment and/or death made by those around me.
ReplyDeleteYou should get a job in retail as one of those rare folks who can tolerate it for an 8 hour shift.
