Now these big orange pumpkins are more like it. My friend, Ms. Swell Bee said these American style pumpkins have appeared only recently in Australia. Before that, Australians attempted to carve winter squash with a really hard, thick rind like that shown upon on the price sign. They still don't understand that a long stem in preferred to a sad little nub.
Looks like pineapple is trying to muscle in to the Halloween market! I've seen photos of pumpkins sold for Halloween in Britain and they all have their stems cut off to little nubs too. I wonder if it has anything to do with making transport easier for the growers/importers?
