Hail

Since we are fortunate enough to get rain, we are also unfortunate enough to get hail.  It seems like every afternoon, we have a severe weather warning.  The changing climate has the weather behaving exactly like predicted.

It comes like bullets on the rooftop, shredding the leaves and pummeling the windows.  I have endured it 5 times already this summer but count myself lucky as none of it has been larger then a gumball.

This latest storm seems to have been lethal for insects.  Cleaning up the debris, I found dead bees, a paper wasp nest and a lovely dragonfly. What must it be like for these little creatures as boulders crash down from above?

I did rescue this corpse to use in my haunt.  I glued it to this paper and hopefully can find a little shadowbox to preserve it.

  1. That's disturbing. Certainly it would be lethal for bugs and maybe even things like mice. If it's not normal for the area, they won't have the instincts to avoid it. Shredding plant leaves doesn't sound good either.

    1. Hail has always occurred in Colorado but climate change just means it is coming more frequently with more intensity. Kind of like the South has always been hot but now it is hotter more often at higher temps.

  2. We had dragon flys in the backyard the other day. I think it's breeding season for them. The dog was have a great time chasing them.
