This winter I acquired yet another hobby. To an exhaustive list of existing hobbies- gardening, yoga, horses, birding, cooking, camping, my blog, Halloween crafts, and miniatures, I am adding the art of stained glass. A long time ago, after our bedroom was remodelled, I had the contractor leave a gap over the door because I was gonna have a stained glass transom window made. Fast forward 3 years and there was still a gap over the bedroom door. I had picked up a few cards for glass artists over the years but never really got an estimate. Finally I said enough and found Full Spectrum Art Glass in Colorado Spring. Owned and operated by Coral, a woman of many talents, I took a glass class and learned the craft. The first project we tackled was a starter project everyone makes and it was all about the process. It is a stylized Victorian flower. Here is how mine turned out:
For the second project, I chose to fill the hole above the bedroom door with a geometric of my own design. It is a bit wonky but it looks good up there, far away so you cannot see the mistakes unless you're 6'11".
Well now I am a seasoned pro who specializes in pieces full of mistakes like this puffin:
My soldering is a hot blobby mess but I am enjoying myself a lot. Naturally I have thousands of Halloween ideas swirling about my brain. I am currently working on a couple of spider webs. What do you think? Do you like stained glass?
