Another Hobby - Are you Serious?

This winter I acquired yet another hobby.    To an exhaustive list of existing hobbies- gardening, yoga, horses, birding, cooking, camping, my blog,  Halloween crafts, and miniatures, I am adding the art of stained glass.  A long time ago, after our bedroom was remodelled, I had the contractor leave a gap over the door because I was gonna have a stained glass transom window made.  Fast forward 3 years and there was still a gap over the bedroom door.  I had picked up a few cards for glass artists over the years but never really got an estimate.  Finally I said enough and found Full Spectrum Art Glass in Colorado Spring.  Owned and operated by Coral, a woman of many talents, I took a glass class and learned the craft.  The first project we tackled was a starter project everyone makes and it was all about the process.  It is a stylized Victorian flower.  Here is how mine turned out:

For the second project,  I chose to fill the hole above the bedroom door with a geometric of my own design.  It is a bit wonky  but it looks good up there, far away so you cannot see the mistakes unless you're 6'11".

Well now I am a seasoned pro who specializes in pieces full of mistakes like this puffin:

My soldering is a hot blobby mess but I am enjoying myself a lot.  Naturally I have thousands of Halloween ideas swirling about my brain.  I am currently working on a couple of spider webs.  What do you think? Do you like stained glass?

  1. I ADORE stained glass and yours looks perfect to me! Seriously, I don't see any mistakes or mess in any of them! My Rare One took up doing stained glass a few years ago and got all the equipment etc. She enjoyed it for a while but gradually left off doing it. I think she was tired of all the tiny little cuts in her fingers, LOL! Anyway, stained glass looks lovely in a window but one quickly runs out of windows. I've purchased a number of stained glass Christmas ornaments over the years -- they look great on a tree. Plus it's amazing what can be done in 3-D with stained glass -- votive candle holders, lovely "treasure" boxes, etc. Back in the day, I used to have a big stained glass labrys hanging from my car's rear view mirror, LOL!

    1. Well I had to look up the word Labrys. It is an ax. So you had a bit stained glass ax hanging from the rear view mirror - interesting. Yes I plan on taking some more advances classes to make other stuff.

    2. Also - I think a blog about Your Rare Ones stained glass pieces would be most appreciated by me.

  2. They all look great. But when you do stuff yourself, "mistakes" stick out like a sore thumb to you. No one else will see them.

    1. I hope so unless they know anything about making stained glass.

  3. Always learning new things is good for the brain as we age. It all looks lovely and yay for door project completed! Been around a lot of glass my step dad made windows for the first house we lived in when we moved here. Corner spiderwebs in windows and doorways are so cool.

    1. Right now I can only make square and rectangles but hope to branch out into shapes really soon with some advance classes.
