The Dark of Night

The following Skeletons had to be photographed late due to the glare of the shop windows.  We went out in the evening and his Lordship helped  hold a huge black cloth suspended on walking poles behind the camera to block the remaining light.  The looks we got from passersby!

The first two are western-themed pairs.  The Hemp Store (yes - we really have a Hemp Store) had this pair of gun toting renegades.
Old Tyme Photos, who has been in business over 30 years, featured the Gambler and the Showgirl.  Love her fishnets!
Below at Mountain High Sportswear, Emma Crawford is reincarnated as a Biker.  If you failed to get it, the shop owner has written a little sign to that effect.
This lovely Day of the Dead fortune teller is surrounded by crystal balls sold at the Southwest Silver Company.  I like when a business ties their skeleton to their merchandise.
Jibwa, located in the Manitou Arts Center, has this interesting Mermaid Skeleton.  What is that in the chest cavity - huge donuts??

I have saved the piece de resistance till last.  Mountains West has gone above and beyond with their display.  Forget a single skeleton - they have devoted their entire window to creating a world of fantasy. I present Mountains West's Harry Potter:

The window around the side is decorated too.

Just look at the details and the skeletons - unicorns, dragons, mermaids, Hedwig, Fluffy etc. They are worthy of New York or Chicago!  All in our small  hamlet of 5,000 people - just amazing.

  1. Impressed with how all out the shops go with decorating in your parts. Love the details on that one dragon skeleton sitting at the table! Really proves that skeletons are your best investment across the board for doing any type of haunted house or yard haunt. They're the most versatile props you can own. They cab be transformed into just about anything your imagination can think of.

We've not gotten out and about in these parts to look around at how the regional villages and store fronts have decorated this year like we would normally do this time of year because of some major and unexpected career changes that happened at the end of 2018 that require Mrs. Haunted Eve to travel each and every month this year. We're actually fortunate that we were still able to do a yard haunt this year. Next year is a big question mark. Thus why this year's haunt theme "The End?" isn't just about the spirit world, it's actually quite a literal question regarding our future yard haunting activities. And then top that off with Pumpkinrot's abrupt and mysterious disappearance from the online Halloween community this summer! 15 days until Halloween and zero blog posts from Pumpkinrot since June 21st! What's this world coming too!

  3. Love the three-headed dog and all the little Harry Potter details! And sure, everybody likes donuts, even skeletons. He's not exactly at risk of gaining weight, so he might as well eat big ones.

I live in a metro area of two million and I haven't seen anything like this (admittedly I don't go downtown much). Manitou Springs must be that "town of Halloween" from the old song.....

    1. We adjoin Colorado Springs and have two sayings "Keep Manitou Weird" and "Keep Colorado Springs Lame". Manitou is a haven for all the free thinkers and hippies who want to stay as far away from the "Focus on the Family" crowd as we can get! I have to admit that I moved here because of warnings about the Witches of Manitou, who were rumored to have put animal remains on Ted Haggard's doorstep. It is what drove him to seek out meth and homosexual prostitutes all while railing against sin on Sundays in his mega church. Sigh - still looking for the witches though - have not met any. Just a whole lot of interesting fun people.
