Pictures with Dead Loved Ones?

The Victorians liked to take pictures with their dead loved ones as keepsakes.  Can you imagine a corpse that died say in Houston Texas in July and cuddling on up to that loved one for a photo shoot.  No wonder they needed Lilies and lots of them. In some of these pictures, it is hard to tell who is dead.  I guess the photographers had all sorts of tricks of the trade to make them appear alive.  I am so glad that I have taken picture of my love ones before they died so I don't have to cozy with the corpse.

  1. Plus Victorians liked to make "mourning jewelry" out of the hair of their beloved deceaseds. Not quite as creepy as these photos, though.

  2. That's super creepy! I've seen pictures from funerals before, but this takes the cake!

  3. I believe that anything that a society has made "normal" is normal for its citizens, but I'm sure the stench got to them! Though, one can hope that they called the photographer right after the doctor left :)

    2. They look freshly dead, don't they? The last comment was deleted for lack of punctuation.

  4. Yes.. Pretty insane. I also prefer doing the cozing, before my loved ones turns into corpses ;) I agree, really difficult to see who's dead and not. Always makes me wonder. Creepy that someone that's dead can look so alive. And creepy not knowing who in the photo.. On the other hand, I can understand why they did it.. I mean, to get that one or last photo, to remember their loved one. Though I'd prefer one where they were alive..

    1. Perhaps they had always been meaning to get a photo taken but did not get around to it when the person was alive. But once the person died, the photo climbed to the top of the priority list.

  5. ummmmm..... that would be a "no" . There's a reason some traditions needed to die.
