Back on May 26, our beautiful little Crystal Valley Cemetery was trashed. Over 50 tombstones and grave sites were toppled and broken resulting in thousands in damages.

But as we all know, thugs and vandals are not the brightest bulbs in the shed. After posting a picture on snapchat of a missing headstone, a 23 year old brain trust was arrested and charged with felony criminal mischief, 2nd degree criminal tampering and defacing property. He went to court on Sept 9th.
What an idiot. Punishment should be repairing all of it.
ReplyDeleteWhat a complete asshole. I hope they throw the book at him. And yes, make him pay the full cost of repairing everything, even if it takes him years to pay it off.

Ugh. It is so expensive to reset stones. I’ve been to restoration workshops in the field and you need a crane to set the bigger stones. People who do this have no imagination since that act is asking for curses and hauntings! I am so sorry about the damage to your lovely cemetery.

ReplyDeleteYep the story is he was showing off for friends. I just wished one of his "friends" had the balls to tell him how uncool that was.
DeleteOne of my ancestors tall headstones is pushed over. I thought I would just push it back up. Nope. They are a lot heavier than they look. I called the cemetery office. "Not our problem". I need to call a monument company to have it reset. So my next move is to get 4 or 5 guys over there and see if we can get it back up.
