Slim pickings after Halloween

We attempted a  post-Halloween shop at the stores today but found stocks surprisingly low.  Spirit yielded some decent decor early but stores ran out of the good stuff by about 9 am. Michael's, Home Depot, Walmart, Target, Party City and Walgreens were all busts. JoAnn's and Home Goods had a few things but overall, a very small haul.

  1. Dang, that's too bad. There's only a measly 363 days left until Halloween. They can't expect you to wait until the last minute to get your supplies in.

    1. Yes - and I must prepare for Creepmas - where are those supplies gonna come from??

  2. That's a nice load! Spirit Halloween had a lot of stock this year, which surprised me. I thought they wouldn't with what's going on in the world. The rest of the shops were really lacking and quite disappointing. Maybe next year! Hopefully...

    1. Yes Spirit and the Santana drive-through vegan grill were the bright spots in an otherwise frustrating morning. And the company I kept - they were bright spots too.

  3. When Kmart in my town closed earlier down this year, they still had Halloween and Christmas stuff from 2019. The Halloween stuff was mostly kids' costumes, including several Elvis jumpsuits and Addams Family costumes. I was expecting to see the leftover costumes at Goodwill this year, but that was before the pandemic hit.

    1. Our resale shops were disappointing for Halloween this year and had the audacity to replace it with Christmas a week ago. Oh well suppose I better learn to look for my Halloween online.

  5. I rarely make it to the post-Halloween sales. When I have in the past, I've had the same experience (empty shelves). Shoot, I went on the day before Halloween to Target for some Halloween paper plates and they had nada. But plenty of Christmas paperware I could have bought.

    1. Yep it is why they put it out in July so it can sell out long before Halloween. The glory days of really great post pickings are over.

  6. The Spirit Halloween by us only had costumes and accessories out late Sunday morning and the Party City was cleaned out as well. We came home empty handed, but such is life.

    1. That's a bummer. You are so creative though - you will make what you need for next years haunt. I am less so and have to rely on store bought things.

  7. The trend of 50% off or more sales now start earlier and earlier in October. Ordered several things online from Joann and they sold out after I placed the order! Halloween on a Saturday wiped things out faster than usual online. Have no idea what was in stores. The pandemic was also a factor with more stay at home celebrations. Spirit had the red lace panels on sale online.

    1. Yes next year I will have to shop earlier. Old habits are hard to break.

  8. I miss the good old days of Halloween clearance, you know before everything was picked over by mid September and Christmas merch was vomiting all over the shelves by October. I don’t even try anymore, but it looks like you got some nice stuff.

I bought zombie candy sprinkles in August for gingerdead in December. I shouldn’t have to plan that far ahead for frivolous nonsense.

    1. I agree - it used to be fun. Like black friday shopping only for Halloween stuff. I can't plan for Creepmas in August either - it's just not my headspace! I love that line "Christmas merch vomiting all over the shelves". That's exactly how I feel.

  9. I had the same problem back in Montréal when I lived there: nothing Halloweeney in the shops come November, certainly nothing reduced. Not even candies. It was all about Christmas.

    1. How about the UK - do they do Halloween at all?
