it took us a bit to view this post (because of the title)... (and those are a form of "meal worm" a beetle larva) ... we have a drastic "aversion to flies and maggots...!!! (My FBI Psychological Profile states that Stacey has a "Maniacal Hatred of House Flies"...)... you should see us whenever one gets inside of my house... I am sure it would be amusing to view.... we just viewed the "clip" are those "Meal worms"??? they do Not move like them and their coloration is not that of a common "Fly Larva"..... to Me ... "scarier" than anything that I could post.... Have a great Sunday...
They are indeed maggots of the Green Bottle Fly (or maybe the blue bottle fly - can't recall exactly). We got them at the sporting store and were assured they were not dyed that color but were natural. My sister also buys meal worms for her chickens but you're correct, they move differently than the maggots. The maggots also have the amazing ability to start squirming as soon as they leave refrigeration whereas it takes the meal worms awhile to get warm. The chickens don't care though, they love them both. Sorry it grossed you out - they give me the willies too.
