Commonwheel Artist Festival

Labor Day weekend, Manitou hosts the Commonwheel Artist Festival.  It is a fun blend of visual art and music plus food.  Last year we went and purchased this incredible spider sculpture by Gary Johnson.

It was originally intended for the garden wall but I love it so much I brought it inside.  The woman who used to own the place had a million hooks installed for her large collection of hanging pothos ivy.  These hooks are perfect for spooky stuff like spider sculpture. The artist name is Gary W. Johnson and his website is http://www.garywjohnson.9k.com/. My computer warn me against going there, however, so visit at your own risk. We hope to visit the arts festival again this year and want to find another pal to bring home.

The detail on this spider is just beautiful.

  1. Very cool! I like that the metal is unfinished too, makes it that much more "primitive" looking.

  2. Oh, it's soooooo good to see you back in Blogland! I thought you had stopped blogging, Lady M.

That spider sculpture is seriously fabulous!! And I say that as someone who has a fear of spiders... mostly because in Australia the spiders practically are that big. ;D

Happy Belated Birthday to your Lord M!

  3. Thanks for the support and birthday wishes - I will be sure to pass them along to his lordship. I glad to be haunting again. Last year the whole house was so torn up with a remodel that I haunted the downstairs powder room. It was pathetic!!! Although my contractor told me I decorated more for Halloween than anyone he knew! He is obviously not running with a spooky crowd.
