Spiffy Spider Web

I made this beauty just in time to give to Baby M and the Son of Nell as a  gift.  They are officially part of that rare demographic for millennials. Golfers you say?  Nope -  homeowners.

Nothing says congratulations on your new home like a stained glass spiderweb.  Perhaps an ordinary mother would have given a Bed, Bath and Beyond gift card - I don't know because I am not ordinary.

Corner web

I took a fun class at the Full Spectrum Glass to learn how to make a corner spider web. I hung it on the loft above my stairwell.  I think it turned out rather well.  I think I need one for the other side of the post.

Cool Genetics

Last year I grew both black petunias and black and yellow petunias.  At the end of the summer, inspired by Monty Don of Gardner's World, I harvested lots of seed with the intention of saving myself hundreds of dollars by propagating my own plants.

This is what they looked like last year.

Fast forward to this year were nothing turned out as planned.  Genetics had its way with me and low and behold, the array of colors and patterns that these two produced is astonishing.
I got stripes and splotches in pink and white.
Here are some solid colors in a pallet of pinks and purples.
The one above looks like it has been splattered with bleach.
 Some got edges with ruffles.

This is my favorite with those delicate pink streaks.  I call this cultivar "Lady M" - hee hee.

Another Hobby - Are you Serious?

This winter I acquired yet another hobby.    To an exhaustive list of existing hobbies- gardening, yoga, horses, birding, cooking, camping, my blog,  Halloween crafts, and miniatures, I am adding the art of stained glass.  A long time ago, after our bedroom was remodelled, I had the contractor leave a gap over the door because I was gonna have a stained glass transom window made.  Fast forward 3 years and there was still a gap over the bedroom door.  I had picked up a few cards for glass artists over the years but never really got an estimate.  Finally I said enough and found Full Spectrum Art Glass in Colorado Spring.  Owned and operated by Coral, a woman of many talents, I took a glass class and learned the craft.  The first project we tackled was a starter project everyone makes and it was all about the process.  It is a stylized Victorian flower.  Here is how mine turned out:

For the second project,  I chose to fill the hole above the bedroom door with a geometric of my own design.  It is a bit wonky  but it looks good up there, far away so you cannot see the mistakes unless you're 6'11".

Well now I am a seasoned pro who specializes in pieces full of mistakes like this puffin:

My soldering is a hot blobby mess but I am enjoying myself a lot.  Naturally I have thousands of Halloween ideas swirling about my brain.  I am currently working on a couple of spider webs.  What do you think? Do you like stained glass?
