More about the Trio

I love the Alkaline Trio. Their first disc came out in 1998 . Since then, they have followed with many incredible offerings.  While top 40 success has evaded (probably due to their lyrics being dark and a little vulgar), they have a large following. With their fun blend of pop punk and macabre lyrics, they are my kind of band.  I am determined to turn at least one reader onto them, The artwork they employ for their tours, albums, t-shirts is so great.  I am gonna feature a little of it here:

I especially love this one - a take on Joy Division's "Love Will Tear Us Apart".

Death by Chocolate

Valentines day is approaching and I have an event that week with a theme of "Death by Chocolate".  So I thought I would do a little search to find out what is available for me to bring as an offering.

So far my quest has yielded a slew of recipes, one cookbook, one mystery novel and this gal.

But look at this for $3.00 from Bittersweet Candy.  This could be a bit of fun!!!

Now this is just plain beautiful.  Wouldn't you love to receive this beautiful black box with skulls inside?

Catacombs

I have been to the Catacombs in Paris.  It is an eerie experience.  When descending the dark, damp stairwell under Montparnasse, the first thing I noticed was the smell.  A musty, close oder that seems to seep into every crevice.  Then you start to see them - bones.....bones everywhere.  Skulls piled higher than ones head.  Femurs stacked into fascinating geometric shapes. Walls made from the long dead. Established in 1786, they contain the remains of countless Parisians who were moved when the city was reconstructed.
Proof that we were there

Mummy Cake

Baby M is home - on a little break from the studies.  It has been so lovely to have her here.  She's my favorite pal.  Yesterday, we were gonna have some pumpkin cupcakes leftover from Halloween but  we discovered they were all freezer burned.  Still desiring cake, Baby M produced the cutest cake pan from her room.  She purchased it on sale at Target Nov. 1.  I was so proud - such a chip off the old haunter block!!! Anyhow, it looks like this and is made by Wilton.

We quickly searched online for a high altitude vanilla cake recipe.  While I would have liked chocolate, Baby M felt a mummy should be white. The mummy cake came out like this.

We made a cream cheese frosting that we pipe on to follow the contours of his rags - adding a bit of colored frosting for eyes and the spaces between.  Viola - he's so cute.  I started a healthy eating blog and have so many goals in that area but I am still gonna have to have a bit of mummy cake for lunch
I think next time he could be a chocolate mummy with white rags!

Welcome new friends

I have been horribly remiss in welcoming my new friends to the parlor.  Many of these fine folks came to visit during Creepmas, upward of a month ago.  I would like to welcome Dr. Theda of Dr. Theda's Crypt.  Thanks for all your comments over the last month - It is good to know someone is reading.  I would also like to welcome Meagan at Coffin Kitsch - she is a fashion inspiration if ever I had one. Also, there is the ethereal MK over at MK Little Cabinet of Curiosities.  Finally, I have a mysterious follower in the form of Ricky El Vinkingo Darko. So thank you for visiting the parlor - it is my pleasure to host you all.
Come in - I am brewing something just for you.

New Years Resolutions

So I have been thinking about these - and trying to make them achievable this year since usually they are something that I never manage like lose 20 pounds.  So this year I will not focus on weight lose but on health.  Got to get healthy since my November lab work was not to nifty - better diet, more exercise, less booze and junk food. All work and no play - making Lady M a very dull girl indeed. It sucks getting old.
