Happy New Year

Firstly, let me apologize for my absence.  The Holidays were busy - very busy indeed.  But I'd like to take a brief moment to wish all my new found blogger friends and readers a very Happy New Years.  In celebration of this, lets share a glass of bubbly.  Yesterday while shopping for price reduced ornaments, I ran across a very fun item indeed.  It is a jar of Hibicus flowers.  One gets added to the Champagne glass along with a bit a syrup.  As the flower sits in the Champagne, it opens.  When you finish your drink, eat the flower.  It tastes a little like a fruit roll up.

My little Casper

So recently Lord M and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary.  Twenty five years of wedded bliss.  I got Lord M a chainsaw because we do live in Texas.  And Lord M gave me a 7 verse poem he composed himself and a ghost.  A ghost you say? Yup - His name was phantom but I changed it to Casper - the Friendly ghost.  Here's a picture:

LORD M GOT ME A PONY!  He's a ghost paint.  He appears gray until he gets wet - then you can see his paint markings - big spotches of black and pink. He's every bit as sweet as he looks.  Thank you Lord M.  I love my pony.  I can't wait to dress him up for Halloween.

The 13th Day of Creepmas

The last day of Creepmas is upon us.  In honor of this, I would like to sing the my whole Creepmas song from the top.  Are you with me? Here we go:

 And
Thanks to all the great folks who shared Creepmas with me.  I enjoyed reading all your funny and educational posts.  And I realized there really is a lot more creep in Christmas than I had originally thought.  But alas in the haunted parlor "The monsters are all missin and the nightmares can’t be found, And in their place there seems to be good feeling all around."  So I must move on.  Have a very Merry Creepmas, Christmas, Solstice or whatever you wish to celebrate at this time of year!

Spooky skulls from recycled paper

I know this post is Creepmas challenged.  But unfortunately I haven't the time today.  Gotta paint a bathroom. Gotta clean the upstairs. Gotta go shopping.  So I am posting something I wrote awhile ago that's in the drafts for your enjoyment.  Thanks for your patience! Gotta go!

I saw Gary Williamson's booth at last years ren. faire and adored his work.  He makes the coolest masks,  plaques, and sculptures from recycled paper pulp.  It's beautiful art so I had to have one myself.  It was love at first sight with this little fellow.

Here are some other pictures of his work.  His facebook page is http://www.facebook.com/ShatterdVisages to learn more.

After I got my skull and crossbones home, I had to take some pictures.  It came in that cool burlap sack.

More uses for old pumpkins

So I rescued these fellows from certain destruction the Monday after Thanksgiving and I have been thinking of ways to use them.  The following is a list of more eco-friendly ways to utilize a pumpkin than to toss it in your local landfill.

1. Carve it

You can carve it for Creepmas or do your own personal salute to Krampus.  Krampus is my new favorite holiday icon thanks to Meericat over at Blackwood.

2. Salute blogs you follow

A tribute to the Queen
3. Cook with them

I made my own pumpkin puree to replace what I buy in the can.  It was easy.  Firstly, halve and clean your pumpkin, the bake it in a big shallow pan flesh side down at 350 degrees in 1/2 inch of water.  I cooked mine for an hour.
Before cooking

After cooking
Then remove the skin and puree the flesh in the blender.  And it ends up looking like this.  Now you have fresh pumpkin puree to add to pies, bread, cupcakes ect.  Below are some things I used my puree for in addition to freezing a bunch for the future.

pumpkin bread

pumpkin smoothie
pumpkin cupcakes

4.  Throw them in your composed pile

Definately the most eco-friendly way to dispose of old pumpkins.  Throw them on the compose and make a high quality soil amendment for next year.

Creepmas is definately winding down. Even the Mums are reminding me that it's time to start focusing on that other Holiday that will be upon us shortly.
Christmas tree mums - they just grew like that.  I had no hand in it.

Creepmas present ideas

Creepmas is winding down and now we get to the heart of every good Holiday season: Consumerism.  So here are some present ideas for me and maybe something for you too!
When I was a kid I loved this book.  Its about a group of  witches who specialize in breeding nasty black cats.  Through the miracle of genetic diversity, they end up with a sweet yellow kitten and the mayhem ensues.  So cute and fun.  Read a great review about it here:

I think the witches are supposed to be distressed in this picture
but when I was a kid, I thought they were doing ballet.

Are you a big spender? How about a sofa for your haunted parlor?  I think this one is great - available from Coffin Couches http://coffincouches.com/

Or perhaps your on a budget this year?  I love these canvas wall hangings from The Victorian Trading Co. In fact I love a lot of their stuff. http://www.victoriantradingco.com/store/catalogimages/1a/i17688.html

A gothic ragdoll is always nice. She's available from http://www.tatteredrags.net/

Etsy has a lovely assortment of Spider Necklaces if you fancy.  This beauty is at

How about the retro Which Witch board games? Warning these are selling for well over $100 on Ebay

How about a black or orange Christmas tree?  Garden Ridge has them in every color of the rainbow.

Here's a mug with a suprise at the bottom.  Available from http://www.thegreenhead.com/

Or sconces - I really need some sconces for over the fireplace.  I found this one

Or there is this one. Available from

How about some bed sheets?

Or a new lamp?

Finally, the parlor really needs a new ceiling fan along these lines

So now you know what I'd like.  What's on your Creepmas wish list?

Blast from the past

Wednesday, Merricat over at Blackwood posted the most adorable Christmas cartoon called The Snowman .No not that annoying thing from Britain where the Snowman and the boy fly through the air.But a really cute little 1930's cartoon. This reminded me of my favorite little cartoon from the 1930's Jack Frost.  My Sisters and Brother and I used to watch this on a 35 millimeter projector.  It was silent but was in color. Old Man Winter is one frightening dude, as my poor daughter is discovering this year.  Ahh this little cartoon brings back such memories.  Remember when it is cold to just sing the frizzly grizzly bear song.

Dress up your pets

I have noticed many of my fellows bloggers enjoy dressing up their pets.  Betwitchy put tu tu's on hers!  So I am getting into that action by introducing Winchester.  Winnie, as he is affectionately known, donned a shark costume for Halloween.  Having been tailored for a small dog and not for a cat with Garfield-like proportions, it would not fastened about his midsection.  Well it would but he refused to move - just flopped over and played dead.  So here he is in all his glory.  If cats could swear, I would be getting an earfull!

On a different note the Phoenix News Times released their list of the fugliest Etsy ornaments and I was sorry to say that this little goth Whimpering Willy made it on there.  So mainstream America continues it's war against Creepmas.  Keep the Creep in Creepmas I say.  Would you hang him on your tree or do you thing he got his just what he deserves?  To see the whole list, just follow the link. http://blogs.phoenixnewtimes.com/jackalope/2011/12/the_seven_fugliest_holiday_orn.php

Description: Whimpering Willy is so goth, dresses like a vampire and cries to get the ladies... I think it works, he has many girls in love with him, myself included. :)
